Course Orientation

Online courses generally mean that students work on their coursework when it fits their schedule, and many students find online courses very convenient. There are no set days or times when students need to be logged in every week: You could do your work at 5 am, 5 pm or midnight! However, many students find online courses challenging in terms of self-discipline, as there are no weekly meetings on campus with an instructor. It is up to you to create your own to-do lists each week and to follow assignment deadlines. Make sure you do not get behind!

In the Course Welcome Module, you will find details about how to get started in the course.

This course will be organized by "Modules." Within each Module, new assignments, readings, and other tasks will be assigned each week. Please note that all materials found in the links in the class Modules are required reading. Students are responsible for all assigned reading material. Generally, I will publish the next week's assignments and materials on Fridays. Most of the assignments for the class are due on the following Saturday. However, there may be some assignments that are due on different days, so make sure you pay careful attention to the due dates.

After reading all of this information in the Welcome Module carefully, please message me through our Canvas messaging system if you have any questions. You can do this by clicking on the "Inbox" link on the left-hand side of the page.

When you come across class content that you are unclear about, that is when you should email me ASAP. Do not wait until a few hours before it is due to ask questions. While I strive to respond to emails within 24 hours, I can't be online all of the time. It is up to the student to ask questions about assignments in a timely manner so that I am able to answer any questions.

I will respond to discussion posts either within the discussion board or in the individual Grading Comments. Feedback on other types of assignments will be made in the Grading Comments, and grading will generally be completed within one week of the assignment due date.
