BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS QUIZ - Research Strategies Quiz Preparation:

To prepare for this quiz, you'll watch several short videos and complete several textbook readings. Take notes on the following questions and then use your notes to answer the quiz questions. Take adequate time to do all of the readings and complete notetaking before beginning the 60 minute timed quiz. 

  1. Read Everything’s An Argument: Finding Evidence pages 415-423.
  2. Explore the CCC Library Homepage. Make sure to use the CREDO search box. Answer the questions: What kind of research tool is CREDO? How might it help you write a paper? (Hint* Credo is similar to Wikipedia in many ways.)
  3. Go to the CCC Library's Research Strategies and Guides page. Click on Starting Your EBSCO Host Search. Read the page and watch the two videos: Starting Your EBSCOHost Search and How Many Key Words Should You Use? (Hint: You will find the Key Word video on the Starting Your EBSCO Search page.) Also make sure to read: Key word Search Tips for Students 
  4. Take notes on search terms, how many keywords to use in a search, how to limit your results, ways to save a document, and how to obtain a works cited page citation for an article. Answer the following questions as you watch the videos: Starting Your EBSCOHost Search and How Many Key Words Should You Use?
  5. How do you limit the databases you are searching? What do you click on? What do you do?
  6. When viewing information on a specific article, why might you want to click on a major or minor subject?
  7. What does it mean to select "Full-text" when searching a database?
  8. What is an abstract? Why might it help you when researching?
  9. What are four ways you can keep track of the citations you’ll need for your argument essay?
  10. Look at the webpage,  "Database vs Search Engines “
  11. Know at least three differences between the internet and a database.

You may use your book and notes to help you take this Research Strategies quiz. You may take the quiz twice. You will have 60 minutes to complete the quiz.
